We often walk through the streets of Hamra, consciously avoiding eye contact or interaction with the street children. Maram is a short documentary that introduces us to a young Syrian refugee girl who sells flowers on these same streets. Through this film, we get to know her, her story, and her dreams.

This mini-documentary was made possible by a group of volunteers who dedicated their time to sharing the story of Maram, the most beloved young flower seller on Hamra Street in Beirut, Lebanon. Maram, only 11 years old, lives and works on the streets with very little education, having been out of school for four years.

Her situation reflects that of many children in Lebanon who, due to widespread corruption and income inequality, lack access to quality education. This film seeks to shed light on the urgent need for free, accessible, and unbiased education for children everywhere. No child should be deprived of an education that equips them for a brighter future.

Maram, like so many others in her position, deserves a better life. Education is the most powerful weapon against poverty, terrorism, and racism. What is needed is a long-term strategy rooted in humanity, not profit. Maram deserves a better future, as do all underprivileged children.
